Over on my Willy Wigglestick blog, I've shared some of my reservations about the recently published New Oxford Shakespeare. This mini-rant is not really related to Shakespeare per se, but is really just a complaint about the horrible customer service at Oxford Online. So I'm sharing it here. Here's the story...
The print edition of the New Oxford Shakespeare came out back in April 2016, according to my Amazon records. It took them quite a while longer to get the online editions up and running. But part of the deal when one ordered the print edition was that one would also get complimentary access to the online version for 12 months for free. It took them so long to get the online version going, though, that they eventually extended the period of the free subscription. I remember getting some sort of notice that the subscription had been extended, but I can't find it in my email anywhere. Anyway, I was able to access my subscriber information, and according to that website, my subscription is supposed to be good through June 2018. And I was just using the online NOS this morning. But this afternoon, when I attempted to login, I started getting this message: "Users without a subscription are not able to see the full content. Please, subscribe or login to access all content." And I am logged in, just as I have always done. But still no dice...I can't access a single page of the online content. I've got a lifetime subscription to the Norton Shakespeare online, and I have rarely had any problems with their online version. (I think it stopped working for a day several months ago, but I emailed them, and they quickly fixed it.) But I have had all kinds of trouble with the NOS. And their online edition is far inferior to Norton's overall. The layout is much more confusing, the notes are not as easy to access. Norton is superior in pretty much every way. I hope I get the whole problem worked out. But I'm not holding my breath! |
